Location & Site

Dropa House is located on the edge of the city, a stone’s throw from the Rivierenhof Park, the green lung of Antwerp. It is easily accessible by car, bicycle and public transport – just ten minutes from the main train station. The site has an unloading quay for technical equipment, no parking spaces for cars, but plenty of space for bicycles.

Each visitor enters the gallery through the garage door and passes the offices with a view of the grounds. Past the offices, one arrives at the green patio, where the central meeting room and kitchen are located.

At the back of the green patio there is a large covered entrance area that provides access to the central hall inside, also accessible for wheelchair users. From the central hall, visitors can reach the meeting room/kitchen, sanitary facilities, residence rooms/guest rooms, control room/post-production room, large recording studio/workspace and the green patio.

“They’re committed to helping musicians connect with an expanding number of enthusiasts, supporters, and like-minded friends. They’re creating and cultivating a network of ‘sanctuaries’ where musicians of all tribes and persuasions can commune.”
Jim Sauter (Borbetomagus)
Dropa House - first international residency

There are 3 restrooms in the central hall. On the left is the main entrance to the large studio/workspace and a corridor that gives access to four residence rooms with daylight through a dome, remote controlled and dimmable, and internet (wired and wireless). There are two spacious walk-in showers in the hallway with a rain shower, thermostatic valve, underfloor heating, tiled walls and a continuous terrazzo floor.

The building is wheelchair friendly with a ramp at the main entrance, a wheelchair accessible restroom and a ramp between the central hall and the meeting room/kitchen. With the exception of the basement level – used for archives, storage and back line – which is reached by 2 flights of stairs, all areas are on the ground floor. There is an access point for the control room/post-production area from both the recording studio/workspace and the corridor of the residence spaces. This space can only be used by professionals (recording, production, post-production) or for professionally supervised workshops. Beyond the covered entrance zone there is a second entrance to the underground storage zone and a smaller intimate patio with a large window overlooking the large recording studio / workspace.
